Solar-Powered e-Bike Cycle Parking Installed on the Isle of Arran
27-04-2026

Falco has successfully delivered a sustainable cycle parking solution for North Ayrshire Council with the installation of a 4m FalcoZan-180 cycle shelter at Brodick Public Hall in Brodick.

Designed to complement its surroundings, the shelter features FSC® certified hardwood cladding, providing a natural, high-quality finish while maintaining durability and long-term performance. The installation accommodates up to six bicycles using traditional Sheffield Stands, offering a simple, secure and widely recognised cycle parking solution suitable for a range of users.

Enhancing the scheme further, Falco also supplied and installed a Solarcycle e-Bike Solar Charging Station, supporting the growing uptake of electric bicycles. The unit is powered by solar panels integrated into the FalcoZan-180 roof structure, enabling users to charge e-bikes using renewable energy generated on-site. This innovative approach allows the facility to operate independently of mains electricity, making it both environmentally friendly and cost-efficient.

The open and spacious FalcoZan-180 shelter fits seamlessly with the Solarcycle system, providing the client with solar-powered and off-grid e-bike charging – a system that requires no mains connection or trenchworks and generates no ongoing energy costs, providing free e-bike charging for all staff.

The collaboration with Solarcycle showcases Falco UK’s dedication to pioneering innovation and constant evolution of its cycle hubs and shelters to support businesses and organisations in their decarbonisation efforts.

Solarcycle’s unique Reporting Function tracks the kWh of free, 100% renewable solar energy dispensed, enabling organisations to estimate how many carbonless miles have been generated by the organisation.

The annual CO2 savings from carbon-free commuting with e-bike travel and Solarcycle charging are substantial. An organisation with 25 employees and a 15% e-bike adoption rate can save 3,252,000g of CO2 annually. This saving increases to 16,260,000g of CO2 for an organisation with 100 employees and reaches a staggering 731,700,000g of CO2 for an organisation with 4,500 employees.

The project demonstrates how cycle parking infrastructure can be combined with sustainable technology to support modern travel demands, particularly in community-focused locations such as public halls and shared spaces.

By delivering a fully integrated solution, including manufacture, supply and installation, Falco continues to support local authorities in creating accessible, secure and forward-thinking cycle parking facilities that encourage active and sustainable travel.

Circularity

Falco has been a family company with its own production site for over 70 years. Sustainability was in our DNA from the very beginning and this is reflected within our complete range of modular cycle parking and shelter products, all designed with full circularity in mind.

All products ranges are contemporary and durable, typical of a Falco product. Falco has been at the forefront of the cycle parking and street furniture market and has built up a renowned reputation for manufacturing products that exceed in both design and durability.

Falco’s operations have supported the Circular Economy for many years, simply manufacturing products with environmentally friendly products, that can last for decades and at the end of the product life can be 100% recycled and manufactured back into a brand new product.
