The UK government has recently confirmed a significant funding package designed to accelerate walking, wheeling and cycling infrastructure across England — creating opportunities for local authorities, communities and partners to deliver more active travel routes and facilities. In December 2025, Active Travel England (ATE) announced that councils across England have been awarded over £626 million in central government funding to support walking, wheeling and cycling schemes.
