Case Studies
Falco has recently manufactured, supplied and installed two smart FalcoPod Bike Hangars on behalf of Salford City Council, further expanding secure on-street cycle parking provision within the city. The new hangars were installed on Ash Street and Langham Road, Salford, providing local residents with safe, convenient and accessible cycle storage close to their homes. Both FalcoPod units were powder coated in RAL 6009 Fir Green, carefully selected to complement the surrounding streetscape while maintaining a strong visual presence. The installations were also enhanced with bespoke branding graphics, reinforcing the Council’s identity and ensuring clear recognition of the scheme within the local community. Each FalcoPod Bike Hangar can accommodate up to six bicycles, offering high-density, secure cycle parking within a compact footprint. Designed specifically for residential streets where private storage space may be limited, the FalcoPod provides a practical solution that supports active travel and reduces reliance on car ownership. These particular units feature smart access technology, allowing authorised users to open the bike hangar via their smart device. This keyless system removes the need for traditional keys, fobs or swipe cards, simplifying user management and improving overall accessibility. For local authorities, smart access also offers enhanced control, remote management capabilities and reduced administrative burden. The FalcoPod Bike Hangar is constructed from durable steel and designed to provide robust protection against theft and vandalism, helping residents store their bicycles with confidence. By introducing secure, on-street cycle parking in residential areas such as Ash Street and Langham Road, Salford City Council continues to invest in infrastructure that makes cycling a viable and attractive everyday transport option. If you are a local authority, housing association or developer looking to introduce secure residential cycle parking, Falco can provide fully managed solutions — from manufacture and installation through to smart access integration and branding.
Falco is delighted to have manufactured, supplied and installed an extensive cycle parking solution for The Fairfax, a major new £165 million build-to-rent development in Manchester City Centre. Located close to Portugal Street East, The Fairfax comprises 488 one and two-bedroom apartments set across two striking 23 and 29-storey towers. Designed to meet the growing demand for high-quality city living, the development will offer residents a range of premium amenities including a fully equipped gym, rooftop terrace with panoramic views, co-working and resident lounge spaces, concierge services, and access to a newly created public park, helping to enhance the surrounding urban environment. To support the sustainable travel ambitions of the scheme, Falco delivered an impressive total of 492 semi-vertical cycle parking spaces using the FalcoVert-Pro cycle rack. With cycling continuing to grow across Manchester, particularly within city centre residential developments, the need for secure, space-efficient and user-friendly cycle parking was a key consideration. The FalcoVert-Pro is a space-saving cycle rack design, ideal for high-density locations such as stations, cycle hubs, shopping centres, high streets, residential developments and car parks. Bicycles are parked semi-vertically, with both the front and rear wheels securely located within a custom-designed trough. This ensures stability and ease of use, while maximising the number of spaces achievable within a compact footprint — a crucial factor for large-scale urban schemes such as The Fairfax. By specifying the FalcoVert-Pro, the development benefits from an efficient and durable cycle parking solution that encourages sustainable transport choices among residents. The high-capacity installation ensures that provision comfortably meets anticipated demand, supporting Manchester’s wider active travel and net-zero ambitions. The FalcoVert-Pro system has been successfully installed across thousands of cycle parking schemes throughout the UK, including at The University of Oxford, Govia Thameslink Railway, Avanti West Coast, Manchester Piccadilly Station and numerous NHS hospitals. Its proven track record in high-traffic environments makes it a trusted choice for Architects, Developers and Contractors seeking reliable, long-term cycle parking infrastructure. Since our original installation project in Shrewsbury, Falco has continued to support cycling infrastructure in the town with the installation of five new secure bike hangars — helping more residents and visitors enjoy safe, weather-protected parking for their bicycles. The scheme, funded through the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), will see a total of 15 secure FalcoPod bike hangars installed at convenient locations across the town. The first five hangars were installed before Christmas, including sites at Fish Street, Market Hall, St Chad’s, St Julian’s and Roushill. Now, Falco are pleased to report the installation of five more bike hangars for the start of the new year, installed at the following key locations: Coleham Tap Pub – A busy social hub now equipped with secure parking to encourage pedal-powered journeys. Frankwell Footbridge – Positioned for commuters and leisure cyclists crossing between Frankwell and the town centre. Frankwell (Residential Area) – A key neighbourhood site where local residents can keep their bikes safely stored. Quarry Swimming Pool – Supporting active lifestyles with convenient bike storage next to a popular leisure destination. Hermes House – A centrally located addition ideal for both staff and visitors to lock up bikes securely. Each FalcoPod bike hangar provides robust protection from theft and the weather, while helping towns like Shrewsbury reduce congestion and support sustainable transport. Following the successful opening of the first units, the new hangars have already proved to be a huge success, with the majority of available spaces now fully subscribed. Each unit provides secure, weather-protected storage for up to six bicycles and features full Shrewsbury Moves branding, smartphone-controlled access, and durable construction designed for long-term public use. The hangars are operated through a subscription-based model, allowing residents to reserve a space via monthly or annual payment options, while the unit located outside Shrewsbury Market Hall offers flexible “pay-as-you-go” access. The initiative forms part of the wider Shrewsbury Moves strategy – a 10-year plan to transform the way people move around the town by prioritising pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport over private cars. The partnership’s goal is to reduce motor traffic, cut emissions, and improve air quality and safety within the town centre, making Shrewsbury a cleaner, healthier, and more accessible place to live and visit. Falco is delighted to support the Shrewsbury Big Town Plan Partnership in achieving these active travel ambitions, providing residents with convenient, secure, and sustainable cycle parking that encourages more people to travel by bike. Operated and managed through Falco’s integrated service—covering everything from installation to rental management and maintenance - these hangars are at the heart of efforts to encourage cycling as a viable, everyday travel option. Manufactured from durable steel and engineered for maximum security, the FalcoPod is fitted with a high-security lock with newly upgraded hardened steel cylinder and features Sold Secure Diamond accreditation. The latest generation of FalcoPods can also be supplied with smart technology, such as app-based access, internal LED lighting and e-bike charging points, to further enhance user convenience. This latest roll-out across Shrewsbury demonstrates the council’s continued commitment to providing residents with high-quality, secure cycle parking, while reinforcing Falco’s position as a trusted partner for local authorities looking to encourage active travel. Falco was commissioned to design, manufacture, supply and install a comprehensive external infrastructure package across Units 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 at the Symmetry Park logistics development. The scope included both high-capacity cycle parking, covered bin store solutions and bespoke plant enclosures tailored to serve the multiple occupiers and reflect the premium, sustainable specification of the estate. With the logistics park being a leading-edge, high-profile development, there was a clear requirement for external structures that were not only functional and durable, but also matched the architectural and sustainability ambitions of Tritax Symmetry. The site demanded assets that would perform over the long term, require minimal maintenance, and visually tie into the development’s industrial aesthetic and green credentials. Falco installed the flagship FalcoQuarter cycle shelter at each of the five units, giving each occupier dedicated, weather-protected cycle parking. In parallel, a robust FalcoLok-250 bin store covered system was installed at each location to consolidate waste and recycling facilities in one discreet, but accessible structure. In addition Falco produced special plant enclosures in varying sizes to suit each Unit. Each installation was manufactured in galvanised steel with premium FSC® certified external cladding and installed with full fixings and anchorage designed to suit the site’s concrete hard-standing and landscaping finishes. For this scheme, Falco’s in-house design team worked closely with the client to configure the unit specifically for waste and recycling use within the busy estate. This project further strengthens Falco’s long track record of delivering high-quality storage and cycle parking solutions for some of the UK’s most significant commercial and industrial developments.
