Falco is delighted to announce the completion of two major new cycle parking facilities at Ipswich Hospital, part of the East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust. Following the successful delivery of a similar scheme at Colchester Hospital in June, this latest installation further demonstrates the Trust’s commitment to sustainable travel for staff, patients and visitors. For Ipswich, Falco designed, manufactured, supplied and installed two FalcoHub cycle hubs, each measuring 8m x 6m and providing space for 72 bicycles using the tried-and-tested FalcoLevel Eco two-tier racks. Together, the shelters deliver a total of 144 secure cycle parking spaces. Each hub has been enhanced with a range of additional features, including integrated LED lighting and the FalcoSmart access control system - a smartphone-based solution providing secure and convenient entry for authorised users. This smart technology offers the Trust greater control over access while creating a modern, user-friendly facility. As with Colchester Hospital, Falco provided a turnkey service, carrying out all groundworks as well as manufacture, supply and installation, ensuring a smooth and efficient process from start to finish. The hubs were finished to a high specification, including: Powder coating in RAL 6005 Moss Green Full glass cladding with bespoke graphics applied Integrated LED lighting FalcoSmart phone-based access control system This latest project not only enhances sustainable travel options for Ipswich Hospital but also builds on the success of Colchester, creating a consistent and modern cycle parking provision across the East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust estate. As mentioned above, the cycle hub incorporates mobile app technology whereby users are able to download an ‘app’ to their mobile or smart device and once enabled by Falco’s system, the user can open the cycle hub simply by pressing the app. Working on a short-range wireless communication interface, an app-based system brings a number of benefits to all parties: • For users, it will offer a smarter option - no more keys and the associated costs. • For the client it offers data reporting – the back office allows reporting data including number of uses, times of use and other important information • For Falco it will be simpler and more eco-friendly – less administration and less paper. A further benefit to clients using the FalcoSmart Okey electronic lock concept is that it can also be integrated into hubs and other cycle stores, so for instance a local authority which has a network of both bike hangars and cycle hubs can give users access to their local bike hangar to pick up their bike for the morning commute and then enable them to use the same app to access the central bike hub at their local station. Falco has continued its successful partnership with the London Borough of Ealing with the recent installation of nine additional FalcoPods - secure on‑street bike hangars - strategically placed across the borough. The new locations include Cairn Avenue, Chandos Avenue, Drayton Road, Grange Road, Glencairn Drive, Junction Road, Mayfield Avenue, Venetia Road and Station Road, providing residents with even greater access to secure on-street cycle parking. These new additions to the Falco rental portfolio build upon the success of earlier deployments, including the rollout of 46 FalcoPod hangars, each providing six secure cycle parking spaces within the footprint of half a single car parking bay, giving residents convenient, accessible and weather-protected storage right outside their homes. The compact yet robust design makes the FalcoPod an ideal solution for urban areas where outdoor space is limited, while helping councils to support sustainable travel. Operated and managed through Falco’s integrated service—covering everything from installation to rental management and maintenance - these hangars are at the heart of efforts to encourage cycling as a viable, everyday travel option. Manufactured from durable steel and engineered for maximum security, the FalcoPod is fitted with a high-security lock with newly upgraded hardened steel cylinder and features Sold Secure Diamond accreditation. The latest generation of FalcoPods can also be supplied with smart technology, such as app-based access, internal LED lighting and e-bike charging points, to further enhance user convenience. This latest roll-out across Ealing demonstrates the borough’s continued commitment to providing residents with high-quality, secure cycle parking, while reinforcing Falco’s position as a trusted partner for local authorities looking to encourage active travel. Falco delivers sustainable transport solutions across two pioneering departments. This summer, Falco was delighted to support the University of Oxford — one of the world’s leading academic institutions — with the delivery of two innovative cycle parking solutions, tailored to meet the growing demands of sustainable travel and e-mobility. The first installation took place at the Institute of Developmental & Regenerative Medicine, where Falco manufactured, supplied, and installed a comprehensive mix of cycle parking facilities. This included 60 spaces of FalcoLevel-Premium+ two-tier cycle racks and 15 Sheffield stands, providing flexible options for both staff and visitors. The installation helps to support the University's wider active travel strategy by making secure, high-capacity cycle parking more accessible across the campus. In a separate project for the Department of Earth Sciences, Falco installed three FalcoCharge-Vault XL fire-safe eBike battery charging lockers—a cutting-edge solution designed to offer safe, secure, and ventilated charging for electric bike batteries. Engineered with safety at its core, each unit is fitted with explosion-resistant compartments and smoke extraction vents that safely disperse hazardous fumes outdoors in the unlikely event of thermal runaway. These lockers not only provide secure, individually lockable charging bays for eBike users but also align with strict fire safety protocols, offering peace of mind to both cyclists and facility managers. The University of Oxford’s adoption of this forward-thinking technology reinforces its role as a leader in embracing safe and sustainable mobility solutions on campus. Each locker features dedicated smoke exhaust ducts to expel fumes safely outdoors, further reinforcing the department’s commitment to safety and innovation in sustainable transport. Both projects reflect Falco’s ongoing collaboration with higher education institutions, delivering forward-thinking infrastructure that not only supports cycling uptake but also prepares for the rapid growth of e-mobility on campus. From classic Sheffield stands to explosion-resistant eBike charging lockers, Falco continues to offer tailored, future-proof solutions to some of the UK’s most prestigious organisations. Falco has recently completed the manufacture, supply and installation of a bespoke cycle hub at Fort William Station, a key transport interchange in the Scottish Highlands. Serving as the terminus for the West Highland Line, with rail connections to Glasgow and Mallaig, the new facility strengthens active travel infrastructure in one of Scotland’s most scenic and environmentally significant regions. Commissioned by ScotRail and delivered as part of the Scottish Government’s 2023 UCI Legacy Cycling Investment Programme, the cycle hub is designed to encourage greener journeys and reduce reliance on private cars. Measuring 10m x 4m and based on the robust FalcoHub design, the new facility accommodates up to 38 bikes using FalcoLevel-Premium+ two-tier cycle racks — offering safe, accessible, and space-efficient cycle parking for commuters and tourists alike. Clad in reinforced safety glass, the structure balances modern design with durability and transparency. As a unique visual feature, the glass panels have been enhanced with bespoke graphics designed by local primary school students — adding a creative and community-driven element that reflects the area’s character and pride. The cycle hub has been made complete for cyclists of all abilities thanks to adaptive cycle parking, a FalcoFix 2.0 cycle repair stand – allowing cyclists to carry out basic cycle maintenance whilst on the go and energy saving LED lighting. The image was captured on a sun-soaked July day during a Highland heatwave, the cycle hub stands as a gleaming example of functional infrastructure with local heart. The project aligns closely with ScotRail’s cycling strategy and its commitment to sustainability, offering high-quality facilities that support Scotland’s wider goal of becoming a greener and healthier nation. Falco’s in-house design team worked closely to ensure the structure met the client’s exacting specifications, including the provision of structural calculations in accordance with EN 1090 CPR requirements — ensuring full compliance with UK construction standards. In addition to the Fort William installation shown here, Falco is working closely with ScotRail to roll out similar cycle parking facilities at stations across the ScotRail network, stations include Glasgow Queen Street, Gourock, Elgin and Perth stations. This major investment in cycle parking infrastructure is expected to have a significant impact on modal shift, with more passengers opting for a sustainable, healthy, and environmentally friendly travel option. Patrick Harvie MSP, Minister for Active Travel, announced a £2million cycling legacy fund to promote and enhance cycling infrastructure and services across Scotland’s Railway. As part of the legacy fund, a bespoke secure cycle hub will be installed at both Inverness and Fort William stations. Falco is pleased to continue its partnership with South Gloucestershire Council in delivering secure, pay-as-you-go app-operated cycle parking across the district. Following the successful launch of FalcoPod bike hangars earlier this year, additional units have now been installed at four new locations: Bank Road, Kings Chase, Page Road and Rock Street. These new installations form part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to making everyday cycling more accessible, convenient, and secure for local residents. Each FalcoPod is equipped with the ParkMyBike smart locking system, allowing cyclists to reserve, unlock and pay for a parking space directly via the mobile app—creating a seamless and flexible cycling experience. All cycle hangars are located at key public areas across the south west England Borough, including a leisure centre, bus station, car park and shopping centre, as well as connecting roads and street with high footfall. The FalcoPod is a compact, weather-resistant cycle hangar designed to accommodate six bikes securely within a single unit, making it ideal for residential streets, urban centres, and transport hubs. With minimal footprint and robust steel construction, the FalcoPod provides reliable protection against theft and vandalism while promoting sustainable travel options in line with the Council’s wider active travel strategy. The expansion across South Gloucestershire reinforces the growing demand for intelligent cycle parking solutions that cater to modern, on-the-go lifestyles. Whether commuting, shopping, or connecting to public transport, the ParkMyBike-enabled FalcoPods offer a practical and affordable solution to short- and long-term bike storage. Falco is proud to support South Gloucestershire Council’s ambition to make active travel safer and more convenient for all. With more locations expected to come online in the coming months, this rollout continues to highlight the benefits of flexible, technology-driven infrastructure in shaping the future of local travel. Falco has completed the design, manufacture, supply and installation of a bespoke cycle hub for Colchester Hospital, part of the East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust, providing a modern and secure active travel facility for staff, patient and visitor use. In response to the growing demand for secure, sustainable cycling infrastructure and to help the NHS reach their net zero targets, the NHS partnered with Falco to deliver a bespoke cycle hub at Colchester Hospital. The installation supports the NHS’s commitment to greener travel options and enhanced urban mobility. The new FalcoHub cycle hub, installed this June, measures 12m x 8m and accommodates up to 128 bicycles using the space-efficient FalcoLevel-Eco two-tier cycle rack system. Designed with both functionality and aesthetics in mind, the hub is clad with reinforced safety glass and features customised branding graphics to complement the site’s identity. A key feature of the cycle hub is secure access to the facility provided by the FalcoSmart platform, allowing users to enter and exit the cycle hub via a dedicated mobile phone app, offering both convenience and eliminating the need for physical keys, fobs or swipe cards. Integrated sustainable LED lighting ensures 24/7 visibility, and a full concrete base was constructed by Falco UK as part of the turnkey cycle parking solution. This flagship installation forms part of the NHS Trust’s commitment to promoting sustainable transport options and creating infrastructure that supports long-term behavioural change towards cycling. As mentioned above, the cycle hub incorporates mobile app technology whereby users are able to download an ‘app’ to their mobile or smart device and once enabled by Falco’s Okey system, the user can open the cycle hub simply by pressing the app. Working on a short-range wireless communication interface, an app-based system brings a number of benefits to all parties: • For users, it will offer a smarter option - no more keys and the associated costs. • For the client it will be cleaner – it’s a more cost efficient bike storage system to manage. • For Falco it will be simpler and more eco-friendly – less administration and less paper. A further benefit to clients using the FalcoSmart Okey electronic lock concept is that it can also be integrated into hubs and other cycle stores, so for instance a local authority which has a network of both bike hangars and cycle hubs can give residents access to their local bike hangar to pick up their bike for the morning commute and then enable them to use the same app to access the central bike hub at their local station.
