Case Studies

This is the latest cycle hub designed, manufactured, supplied and installed by Falco, at Guernsey’s largest law firm, Carey Olsen, located in the small town of St Peter Port, on the east coast of the island. Based on the flagship FalcoLok design, the 8m x 4.5m glass clad cycle hub is coupled with the FalcoLevel-Eco two-tier cycle parking system, providing secure parking for up to forty bikes. In addition to the cycle racks, Falco installed four LED vandal proof lighting systems, complete with proximity sensor, along with a maglock featuring the FalcoSmart Bluetooth access system. The new cycle hub makes use of the FalcoSmart app-based locking system, which uses Bluetooth technology to activate the locking mechanism from the users smart phone or tablet, with the benefit that they no longer need to carry keys or fobs. Employees are able to apply for access to the hub via Carey Olsen and having downloaded the ‘App’ are given access rights to the cycle hub for a period of time depending on their requirement. The system has a fully automated back office enabling the administrator to register new locks for new locations as well as adding new users and creating groups and assigning rights. A huge benefit to the law firm is that they are able for the first time ever to assess usage of a cycle parking facility, directly from the back-office app information. The cycle hub was developed by Falco’s in house design team to ensure it met the client’s specification including structural calculations to meet the EN 1090 CPR requirements of UK law. In addition to the cycle hub shown here for Carey Olsen, all Falco cycle hubs can also incorporate a world of features including; smart LED lighting, green sedum roofs, CCTV and Help Point facilities as well as numerous other cost-effective features for the cyclist such as lock holders, helmet lockers, seating and bike repair facilities. Falco continues with the roll out of the next tranche of cycle parking facilities across ScotRail's franchised network of over 300 stations across Scotland. Pictured here is the latest two-tier cycle parking installation at Glasgow’s Queen Street Station. Falco manufactured, supplied and installed 54 spaces of the FalcoLevel-Premium+ two-tier cycle parking system, along with two FalcoFix 2.0 cycle repair stations and the design and construction of a DDA cycle ramp, enabling cyclists with all abilities to use the new cycle parking facility with ease. The scheme, which got underway last winter, involves the surveying of stations, proposing solutions and the manufacture, supply and installation of cycle parking systems to help implement ScotRail’s cycling strategy. In order to create a network-wide brand feel to encourage more people to cycle to stations ScotRail’s strategy is to install standard facilities throughout the network so that cyclists know exactly what to expect regardless of which station they use. The user experience will be enhanced further by Falco installing multiple way finding signs at every station so that the cyclist will be well informed to where they can use the facilities. Falco has already carried out the design, manufacture, supply and installation of secure cycle parking facilities for a wide number of stations including Conon Bridge, Muir of Ord, Keith and Insch, Huntly, Nairn, Larkhall, Lenzie and Gourock stations, with further stations to receive secure cycle parking this summer. Upcoming stations include bespoke cycle hubs for Inverness and Fort William Stations, as well as secure cycle parking for Barrhead, Ladybank and Kirkhill stations. Patrick Harvie MSP, Minister for Active Travel, announced a £2million cycling legacy fund to promote and enhance cycling infrastructure and services across Scotland’s Railway. In a groundbreaking effort to promote sustainability, Falco UK has teamed up with Solarcycle UK to introduce 100% renewable solar energy e-bike charging stations within their portfolio of secure and sustainable cycle parking facilities. The inaugural installation of this innovative system has been completed at NHS Wales Ystradgynlais Community Hospital, aligning with the hospital's Active Travel and Green Plans. Falco UK is the UK’s leading supplier and installer of secure cycle hubs, cycle shelters, bin stores, and street furniture. Solarcycle stands out with its award-winning world-first, off-grid, ‘solar-in-a-box’ e-bike chargers, offering green, renewable energy for e-bike charging. The collaboration between Falco UK and Solarcycle directly addresses the growing demand for accessible e-bike charging, providing businesses and organisations with an innovative, safe, and environmentally sustainable solution. NHS Powys Teaching Health Board chose the FalcoZan-180 shelter coupled with Solarcycle’s e-bike charging system at Ystradgynlais Community Hospital, for its immediate environmental benefits and minimal disruption. The open and spacious FalcoZan-180 shelter fits seamlessly with the Solarcycle system, providing the client with solar-powered and off-grid e-bike charging – a system that requires no mains connection or trenchworks and generates no ongoing energy costs, providing free e-bike charging for all staff. The collaboration with Solarcycle showcases Falco UK’s dedication to pioneering innovation and constant evolution of its cycle hubs and shelters to support businesses and organisations in their decarbonisation efforts. Solarcycle’s unique Reporting Function tracks the kWh of free, 100% renewable solar energy dispensed, enabling organisations to estimate how many carbonless miles have been generated by the organisation. As the only off-grid solar e-bike charging system with this feature, Solarcycle sets itself apart in the market. The FalcoZan-180 shelter as shown here, is manufactured from a combination of hot-dip galvanised steel with safety glass cladding. Combining creativity with practicality, the new eye-catching cycle shelter sits conspicuous within the hospital grounds and provides up to six secure spaces of cycle parking for staff use. Commenting on the new installation Lloyd Morgan, Capital Programme Manager for Powys Teaching Health Board, said “As we deliver our Health Board’s strategy for a Healthy Caring Powys, it is important as ever to measure, analyse and minimise the impact of our business on the biodiversity and sustainability within our operating areas. The recent installation of the Falco Solarcycle solar powered e-Bike charging points fits perfectly in with our values and commitments surrounding clean energy and also ensures that we remain at the forefront of new, green innovations. To be able to install these charging facilities without the need for any enabling works or mains electrical connections was also a real bonus for us from an operational standpoint and it’s been great to see our cyclists charging their bikes using 100% clean energy”. Falco’s Managing Director, Rob Harper, added “At Falco UK, sustainability is at the core of everything we do. Our partnership with Solarcycle underscores our commitment to environmental stewardship, aligning seamlessly with Falco UK’s mission and strategic objectives. We do a lot of work in Scotland, where grid constraints can pose challenges, and we are developing cycle hubs along the west coast to support sustainable travel including tourism, so the off-grid nature of Solarcycle's system stood out as a pivotal factor in our decision. Together with Solarcycle, we're not just building cycle hubs; we're shaping the future of sustainable transportation infrastructure”. The annual CO2 savings from carbon-free commuting with e-bike travel and Solarcycle charging are substantial. An organisation with 25 employees and a 15% e-bike adoption rate can save 3,252,000g of CO2 annually. This saving increases to 16,260,000g of CO2 for an organisation with 100 employees and reaches a staggering 731,700,000g of CO2 for an organisation with 4,500 employees. Falco UK is a proud member of the NHS Shared Business Services Framework Agreement to provide cycle parking facilities to the NHS and public sector bodies. The framework is free to access for UK Public Sector organisations and provides a quick, simple, and compliant procurement route to market for sustainable Transport and Infrastructure solutions for the NHS and the wider public sector. Falco UK and Solarcycle UK are setting a new benchmark in sustainable travel with their solar-powered e-bike charging solution. This innovative partnership addresses the growing demand for eco-friendly commuting, offering a cost-effective and disruption-free system that benefits both the environment and employees. By harnessing 100% renewable energy, organisations can track their sustainability progress and make a tangible impact on reducing carbon emissions. Falco UK and Solarcycle’s collaboration is a game-changer, driving the future of green transportation infrastructure. These are the latest secure bike hangars manufactured, supplied and installed by Falco for Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust. Spanning twelve sites for the Trust, Falco installed six Green Hangers and six Grey Hangers at sites including Slade House in Oxford, Marlborough House in Swinson and Whiteleaf Centre in Aylesbury. The bike hangars were commissioned exclusively for NHS staff, with all twelve new lockers providing staff with up to 72 cycle parking spaces, all within a sheltered lockable unit with secure access. The design of each bike hangar includes the trusts own logo, vibrant cycling graphics, instructional signage and powder coating in an attractive ‘White Aluminium or Moss Green’ RAL colour for additional durability. Each bike hangar takes up no more room than a single car parking space and is capable of accommodating all types of cycles - from road and mountain bikes to bikes with a child seat on the back or storage basket on the front. Falco design is both evolutionary and innovative by nature and the new FalcoPod is no exception. This is the third generation of ‘bike hangar’ type product building on the pedigree of the original street locker the ‘Midi Bike Box’ with some great new features over existing products as follows: Size - fits in half a car parking space and houses 6 bikes, with covered weather protection. Family inclusive – with an ergonomically improved design, the additional space/height (55% more) means there is no need to remove child seats or baskets from the back or front of bikes. Bike security - the six place FalcoSound bike rack has three locking points including the ability to use a ‘D’ lock through the rear wheel and frame. Easy access - single door with integral lock and gas strut for assisted lifting. The FalcoPod bike hangar as shown here for Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, is a simple and effective cycle parking facility designed to meet the needs of cyclists who don’t have access to private cycle parking facilities. Operating like a giant bread bin, each hangar is a secure and lockable unit capable of accommodating up to six bikes each. The innovative cycle parking solution is also available with an App enabled smart lock, enabling residents to access the unit with their smartphone, eliminating the needs for physical keys and fobs.
