Cyclists in Inverness have recently celebrated the switch on of a state-of-the-art cycle counter supplied and installed by Falco on behalf of Sustrans. The cycle counter is located on a grass verge on Millburn Road on the corner of Diriebught Road. The counter will collect information ass part of the development of a safe cycle route from the Inverness Campus at Beechwood to Inverness city centre. The cycle counter is part of a series of 10 counters installed throughout Scotland on behalf of Sustrans and Transport Scotland whose aim is to increase the levels of cycling throughout the country. The completed route forms part of a link from the new Inverness Campus and the recently constructed golden bridge over the A9 in the east, through Raigmore housing estate to Millburn Road, where it continues to the city centre. Paul Downie of Sustrans said: “The counter installed during the summer months has already counted high numbers of cyclists prior to the works on Millburn Road commencing. With the completion of the Millburn Road Active Travel Route we look forward to seeing a further increase in these numbers. Cycle counters have been used to great effect in a number of European countries and research shows that they can serve as promotional tools to encourage people to cycle on a daily basis.” Along with the nine cycle counters and additional Master ‘totaliser’ has been installed outside the main entrance to the Scottish Government offices at Victoria Quay. The cycling data is sent from each counter to a management system and then redirected to the Master counter as well as displaying live cycle information on the Falco website. The other cycle counters in Scotland are installed at: Edinburgh, Middle Meadow Walk Glasgow, Anderston Coatbridge, Bank Street Stirling, Laurencroft Road Benderloch, Lochnell Primary School Perth, North Inch Park Union Canal, Edinburgh Quay Clydebank, Whitecrook Street Scottish Government Victoria Quay Office, Leight, Edinburgh (Master Data Counter) For more information about the state-of-the-art Cycle Counter, please contact our helpful sales team on 01538 380080.

Since the closing ceremony of the Glasgow 2014 games, Sustrans Scotland, Cycling Scotland and Transport Scotland joined forces to give workplaces across Scotland a chance to bid for and “own a piece of the Commonwealth Games”. Each organisation could bid for up to three of the innovative legacy cycle racks to help boost their cycle facilities for employees and students and encourage the activity of cycling to work. In an innovative approach to commemorate the winning medallists in a sporty way, a series of the legacy cycle racks have been powder coated in gold, silver and bronze to represent each medal won! These are being donated to the respective home towns and villages of the winning medallists and will remain as a long term tribute to each of the successful athletes. The images attached commemorate Darren Burnett's gold medal in the Lawn Bowls Men's Singles and Viorel Etko's bronze medal in the Men's Wrestling Freestyle 61kg event. All 220 of the Legacy cycle racks were manufactured by Falco providing over 2,000 additional cycle parking spaces throughout Scotland. Initially used as temporary cycle parking for the Commonwealth Games, the racks will now be used to commemorate the successes of the 78 Scottish medal winners for many years to come. Hopefully there’ll be one near you! The legacy cycle racks are based on our popular FalcoToaster and manufactured from galvanised steel with laser cut side panels outlining the legacy 2014 logo and powder coated in gold, silver or bronze.
