July saw the opening of the UK’s largest CyclePoint cycle parking hub, with almost 1,000 spaces of mixed use cycle parking. The UK’s hottest day so far saw the The Rt. Hon. Simon Burns MP, Minister of State for Transport and Member of Parliament for Chelmsford officially open Abellio’s (train operator of Greater Anglia) new £680k CyclePoint at Chelmsford station. GA staff at the network’s second busiest station were delighted as the Cyclepoint was full from day one and following on from the success at Leeds Cyclepoint, Falco’s relationship with Abellio continues to grow with Ruud Haket, Managing Director for Greater Anglia, thanking Falco in his opening speech for their excellent work. Following detailed discussion and planning meetings the facility was designed by Falco in conjunction with the team at Spence and comprises a mix of 991 spaces including; Use Spaces Indoor secure 311 External maglok protected secure compound 144 External covered cycle parking 376 External uncovered cycle parking 160 The cycle parking products were all drawn from Falco’s range of robust cycle racks including: FalcoLevel two tier cycle racks 686 FalcoVert semi vertical space saving cycle racks 145 FalcoToaster cycle racks 160 FalcoRail cycle canopy 105 metres of shelter The facility benefits from Falco’s modular product range of shelter and cycle parking products enabling GA to ‘mix and match’ the products to meet the different requirements of cyclists. The FalcoLevel two tier rack is the UK’s most popular high capacity space saving cycle rack, whilst the FalcoRail canopy provides both single and double sided shelter with the option to extend in the future to meet growing requirements. Ideally located on a new site, between the station and the station car park, Chelmsford CyclePoint represents a significant investment of £680k by Greater Anglia, with support from the Department for Transport (DfT), Essex County Council and Network Rail. The cycle hub combines secure cycle parking with increased capacity for cycles, supported by retail, cycle-hire and maintenance facilities in a single location for all cycle-related activity and cycle parking at a station. The total cycle parking capacity at Chelmsford station has increased by over 40% with parking for almost 1,000 cycles in the new facility and both the Council and GA are looking to increase capacity immediately Pictured with Falco Managing Director Jeremy Green, are the Minister Simon Burns, Abellio Managing Director Ruud Haket, Greater Anglia Project Manager Jo O’Donnell and Spence Managing Director Luke Spence.
