Abellio ScotRail Receives Latest Tranche of Cycle Parking Facilities

The latest tranche of cycle parking systems and canopies has just been delivered and  installed at Partick Interchange Station in Glasgow on behalf of Abellio ScotRail - the National Train Operating Company for Scotland. Two key products of the Abellio ScotRail Cycle Innovation Plan include the FalcoLevel-Premium+ two-tier cycle rack and the FalcoRail cycle canopy as demonstrated here at Partick Station. A series of 144 spaces of the high density two-tier cycle rack has been manufactured, supplied and installed by Falco this month with 15m of Falco Rail double sided cycle canopy, increasing capacity from 22 to 166 spaces. The facility marks the start of the next wave of cycle parking improvements, which along with Partick, will also include installations at Beauly, Blantyre, Dalmeny, Dyce, Falkirk, Girvan, Greenock Central, Perth and Prestwick Town stations. To date, Falco has already installed a total of 1,696 cycle parking spaces and associated canopies at over 40 stations on the Abellio ScotRail network including recent installations at Haymarket, Elgin, Livingston North, Inverkeithing, Gourock, Linlithgow, North Berwick, Patterton, Howwood and Kirkcaldy stations. The FalcoLevel-Premium+, as installed at Partick Station, is the UK’s most user friendly two-tier cycle parking system which makes use of both steel and aluminium to create a significant reduction in noise pollution and a much smoother transition of the upper tier. All two-tier racks are sheltered within 15m of double sided FalcoRail cycle canopy, providing maximum coverage whilst occupying a minimum of floor space. Transport Scotland awarded Dutch passenger transport group Abellio the opportunity to run the next ScotRail franchise in October 2014. A key element of the Abellio bid was to increase intermodal transport and central to this was a commitment to install over 3,500 cycle parking spaces within the first three years to increase cycle usage from 3% to 10%. Abellio’s commitment to deliver the UK’s most extensive cycle/rail network includes: £1.6m investment in more cycle parking spaces to have 4,600 by 2017-18. New, fully staffed Dutch style “CyclePoints” at the key city hubs, “CycleParks+” at five others and CycleParks at other stations. Introduction of the Bike&Go cycle hire scheme. Partick Station is an interchange station in the Partick area of Glasgow, Scotland. Along with an adjacent bus station, it forms one of the main transport hubs in Glasgow.
