Falco Installs Twenty Cycle Leaning Rails Across the Cycling City of Horsens, Denmark

This month, Falco travels to Denmark to meet our colleagues, Jane and Malene, who run the Danish Falco office. Our Danish team have just overseen a key project involving the installation of twenty FalcoSupp cycle leaning rails, which have been installed across the Danish cycling city of ‘Horsens’. Commissioned by Horsens City Council, the cycle leaning rails are strategically positioned at all key junctions across the city. The new additions facilitate a cyclists journey by providing a convenient hand and foot rest which can be used by a cyclist when stationed at a junction. The support rails allow the cyclist to remain seated and to re-commence a cycle ride with little effort . This is particularly useful for eBike riders, whereby the size and weight of the bike may result in additional unwanted pressure on the cyclist. Horsens City Council anticipate by investing in new cycle infrastructure, such as the FalcoSupp cycle leaning rail, will promote a cycling friendly environment and increase the amount of cycling journeys across the city. The image attached shows one of the twenty new additions well at use on the 451 junction onSønderbrogade road. The simple, yet effective design of the FalcoSupp features two supports, one allowing the cyclist to grasp with their hands and the other with their feet. The FalcoSupp is an added value product designed to facilitate a cyclists journey and to stimulate the flow of traffic by encouraging the cyclist to remain seated rather than dismounting at key junctions. As shown here, the FalcoSupp can be branded with a council, cycling scheme or company logo or even provide additional information such navigational route guidance or key cycling destinations. European Installation of the Month – Raikurinne Housing Estate, Finland

Despite the UK’s Brexit situation, Falco has strong links in many European countries where cycling is a much more established form of transport. Each month this year we will aim to bring you a project from one of our sister companies around Europe, so this month let’s go Finnish! Elpac OY Kadunkalusteet is Falco’s partner in Finland and is another of Falco’s fastest growing export representatives, matching the growth of cycling within the country. Elpac has been distributing Falco products for many years and has since completed some of the largest cycle parking projects in Finland. Pictured below is a smart FalcoGamma cycle canopy with A-11 cycle racks installed back in September 2010 at Raikurinne housing estate within the Finnish city of Vantaa. Over eight years later we decided to catch up on the former installation to see how it was coping with the Finnish winter weather and more predominantly the snow loading requirements over the last three notably harsh winters!   The cycle shelter and associated cycle racks was installed by Elpac back in 2010 as part of a year long regeneration of the housing estate and over that time no maintenance or repairs have been carried out to the facility, other than an infrequent clean!  Now eight years on, after continuous use all day every day, the robust cycle canopy and cycle racks are in as good of a condition now as when they were first installed! The image attached, taken on a crisp February morning, shows the tough cycle canopy easily withstanding an abundance of snow and still in an exceptionally good condition! University of Edinburgh Receives Ingenious Vertical Cycle Stands

The University of Edinburgh is the first UK University to install the advanced VelowUp® vertical cycle stands at its MRC Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine department. The Institute, specialising in human molecular genetics and biology research, received a series of 63 of the advanced cycle parking systems enabling visitors and staff members to securely park a bike within the restricted space. The advanced VelowUp® vertical cycle stand was chosen to utilise the limited space available and provide a maximum number of cycle parking spaces which no other cycle rack was able to provide. In addition to the University of Edinburgh, Falco has recently installed another series of 15 VelowUp cycle stands for Valentines Park in the London Borough of Redbridge, allowing visitors of all ages to securely park a bike. VelowUp® Vertical Cycle RackThe VelowUp® is purposely designed to maximise the amount of cycle parking spaces in areas where space is at a premium. The system is designed to save up to 40% more space compared to any other conventional cycle rack or stand. The VelowUp® is easy to install, simple to operate and securely accommodates all types of bicycles. The VelowUp® product video shows this simple but effective cycle parking system in use. Falco Installs the UK’s First VeloView Cycle Monitoring and Detection System from Abel Sensors at LBWF’s Walthamstow Central Station

Falco has installed the UK’s first VeloView Cycle Monitoring and Detection System from Abel Sensors at LBWF’s Walthamstow Central station! Incorporating intelligent technology, the system enables real time remote bike monitoring of cycle parking facilities for both cyclists and managers. With 90% market share in the Netherlands and a contract with ProRail to provide bike detection at all Dutch railway stations, Abel Sensors are the world leaders in cycle monitoring and detection. Abel Sensors installations include the prestigious Utrecht and Haarlem cycle parks with over 30,000 bikes being detected in real time. Bicycle detection and monitoring systems are designed to do a number of things for both cyclists and cycle hub managers: Assist traffic planners to determine appropriate infrastructure requirements. Enable cycle park managers to monitor the usage of their facilities (occupancy, flow rates and abandoned/long parked bikes). Provide cyclists with information on the availability of free spaces. Provide cyclists with directional signage to local facilities. Each cycle parking facility is different and there is a myriad of cycle parking rack designs and Falco has a number of different bike detection technologies to address each individual situation, including: Optical Sensors Contact sensors RFID Detectors Essentially bike detection and monitoring systems measure the usage of bikes within a cycle park and make this information available for either; a) Analytical purposes e.g. usage % figures over a specific time frame, reducing the numbers of abandoned cycles, planning the capacity of cycle facilities b) Informational purposes e.g. to provide such things as signage to direct users in a certain way or modify behaviour, directional signposting for cyclists, managing the flow of bikes from different entrances, enabling charging systems to be introduced, integration of bike parking information into client apps. For more information about the installation at Walthamstow Central station or the VeloView Cycle Monitoring and Detection System, please contact our technical sales team on 01538 380080 or by email at sales@falco.co.uk.
