Falco has completed the roll-out of over 600 cycle parking spaces as part of the latest tranche of cycle parking facilities across a number of stations on Abellio Greater Anglia’s network of over 154 stations across the east of the UK. Pictured here are the latest installations at Marks Tey, Rochford, Diss and Southend Victoria Stations – with Witham entering completion! The scheme which got underway in Summer last year involved the design, manufacture, supply and installation of a number of two-tier cycle parking facilities with associated FalcoRail cycle canopies to allow commuters to quickly and conveniently park their bike whilst on the go. The latest tranche saw the following facilities added: Station Facility Marks Tey 34 metres of FalcoRail cycle canopy with FalcoLevel-Premium+ two-tier cycle racks to accommodate 200 bikes. Rochford 10m metres of FalcoRail cycle canopy with FalcoLevel-Premium+ two-tier cycle racks to accommodate 40 bikes. Diss 20m of FalcoRail cycle canopy with FalcoLevel-Premium+ two-tier cycle racks to accommodate 96 bikes. Southend Victoria 11m of FalcoRail cycle canopy with FalcoLevel-Premium+ two-tier cycle racks to accommodate 68 bikes. Witham (TBC) 40m of FalcoRail cycle canopy with FalcoLevel-Premium+ two tier cycle racks to accommodate 200 bikes Two key products of the scheme are the tried and tested FalcoLevel-Premium+ two-tier cycle parking system and the EN 1090 accredited FalcoRail cycle canopy, which have been used throughout the Abellio Greater Anglia network to give cyclists using the railway the same experience across the region’s stations. When combined together, the Falco facilities create the ultimate cycle park - providing cyclists with high levels of cycle security in a spacious contemporary canopy design. This week, Bedford Borough Council took delivery of the UK’s first ever cycle hub to feature an app-based locking mechanism. The contemporary designed FalcoHub facility located in the shopping district of Bedford town centre was manufactured and installed by Falco and features the first ever UK application of an app-based locking and booking system. The FalcoSmart app-based locking system uses Bluetooth technology to activate the locking mechanism from the users smart phone or tablet with the benefit that they no longer need to carry keys or fobs. Residents are able to apply for access to the hub via the Council and having downloaded the ‘App’ are given access rights to the cycle hub for a period of time depending on their subscription – and here at Bedford it’s free to residents! The system has a fully automated back office enabling the administrator to register new locks for new cycle stores as well as adding new users and creating groups and assigning rights. A huge benefit to the local authority is that they are able for the first time ever to assess usage of a cycle parking facility, directly from the back-office app information. The FalcoSmart app-based locking system is designed to work with any cycle parking facility; from bike hubs to bike hangars and from padlocks to existing facilities, with a range of locking options all linked to the app and back-office. At the Hoven senior citizens complex, Falco has recently installed a spacious scooter canopy with a green sedum roof with two spacious doors so that residents can park their scooters in a safe and dry environment. The Client, Centrada, opted for a custom-made FalcoLok roof which both meets the EN1090 regulations as well as supporting an environmentally friendly green roof. At 16m wide and 7m deep, the canopy provides a spacious area where more than 20 mobility scooters can be parked inside the canopy. The construction of the shelter is made from structural steel roof frames with a specially strengthened roof section to withhold the green sedum roof. A green sedum roof has a huge number of advantages, such as insulation for both heat and noise. Additionally a sedum roof both reduces water discharge as well as compensating for CO2 emissions. A further benefit of green roof systems is that they traditionally last longer than a usual roof covering and offer a natural view for residents on numerous floors. In keeping with the ‘green’ theme, for the wall cladding, FSC® certified hardwood slats were chosen, however it is also possible to use over ten other materials for the wall cladding. Greeting commuters at the front west of the station, the new facility comprises 32 spaces of the UK’s leading two-tier cycle parking system, the FalcoLevel-Premium+ combined with the open and spacious FalcoRail cycle canopy, all powder coated in a bold Jet Black RAL colour.
