Case Studies
Continuing with the roll-out of cycle parking infrastructure to NHS trusts across the UK, Falco has recently designed, manufactured, supplied and installed a series of cycle parking infrastructure for St Bartholomew's Hospital in London - which is the oldest hospital in Britain! Managed by Barts Health NHS Trust, St Bartholomew's Hospital is located in the centre of London, close to St Paul’s Cathedral and is set to celebrate its 900th birthday in 2023! Located within the congestion zone and with no public car parking available, walking and cycling to the hospital is strongly encouraged. Due to the increasing demand for secure cycle parking spaces, Falco has recently manufactured, supplied and installed a series of 130 spaces of FalcoLevel two-tier cycle racks coupled with 16m of the FalcoRail cycle canopy and 48 spaces of the FalcoVert semi-vertical cycle rack, to meet staff, patient and visitor demand. The scheme here at St Bartholomew's Hospital makes use of the tried and tested FalcoLevel two-tier cycle parking system and the popular FalcoRail cycle canopy, which when combined together, create an attractive cycle park - providing cyclists to the hospital with high levels of cycle security, all in a spacious contemporary canopy design. The steelwork on the cycle canopy has been powder coated in a cordial 7011 Iron Grey RAL colour for added durability with LED lighting incorporated into the canopy structure for night-time illumination. The new facility, with everything a cyclist will need in order to visit the hospital by bike, has been installed to the north of the hospital grounds, next to Little Britain road and near to the restaurant and coffee shop. St Bartholomew's Hospital is just one of numerous NHS hospitals Falco has provided cycle parking infrastructure to this year alone. Other recent examples include cycle hubs for Bradford Royal Infirmary and St Luke’s Hospital in Bradford, Basildon and Southend University Hospital, a bespoke cycle hub for Ninewells Hospital and Medical School in Dundee, a trio of cycle hubs for NHS Grampian hospitals in Aberdeen, FalcoCrea cycle lockers for NHS Forth Valley in Falkirk, two cycle stores for NHS Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline, cycle racks for Royal Berkshire NHS hospital in Reading and a flagship FalcoHub for Newham University Hospital in London. This is the striking cylindrical cycle shelter Falco designed, manufactured, supplied and installed for De Vaart Elementary School in Ter Aar, Netherlands. Combining creativity with practicality, the new eye-catching cycle shelter sits conspicuous within the school grounds and provides secure levels of cycle parking for students and staff. The bespoke cycle shelter is based on the traditional FalcoLok design and boasts a generous 6m diamater with associated curved doors, secure access, a green sedum roof and bespoke FalcoSinus seating surrounding the perimeter. Designed by Falco’s in-house design team, the unique cycle shelter is manufactured from a combination of hot-dip galvanised steel with FSC® certified hardwood slats. Installed by Falco last month, the cycle shelter and seating has been designed in such a way to maximise the facilities available to students, yet within the tight constraits of space available. The green sedum roof, an increasingly popular feature for Falco shelters, supports the schools sustainable development plan by providing the many advantages associated with green roof systems as well as insulation for both heat and noise. A sedum roof both reduces water discharge as well as compensating for CO2 emissions. A further benefit of green roof systems is that they traditionally last longer than a usual roof covering and offer a natural view for students from the upper floors. The FalcoSinus seating as shown here, is a contemporary bench design ideal for a wide number of applications. The design is available in various radii and angles allowing a number of configuration possibilities. The FalcoSinus can contour a specific line to follow or highlight a natural or man-made curve.
