Case Studies

These are the 32 FalcoBloc picnic tables Falco supplied to Euston Railway Station back in April 2008. Now fourteen years on, after continuous use all day every day within the capital, the picnic tables are in as good of a condition now as when they were first supplied! Each picnic table was repainted during lockdown to continue to protect each unit from weather and general wear and tear, enabling each picnic table to last another ten years and beyond! Back in 2008, when Network Rail was looking to upgrade the concourse outside Euston station, they approached Falco to develop a bespoke picnic table solution. Based on the original FalcoBloc range of seating, the new design for the main West Coast terminus was specially adapted to meet the needs of the travelling public. Falco’s street furniture design team took the popular FalcoBloc table and adapted it in conjunction with the requirements of Network Rail’s station management team. The solid and functional picnic table design provides a stylish and welcoming environment for travellers to the North and West. The image below shows the original fourteen year old FalcoBloc picnic tables, installed back in 2008, on a crisp January afternoon. Along with Euston station, Falco has also supplied picnic tables to many locations across the UK including Manchester United Football Club, Manchester City Football Club, Loughborough University, Middlesex University and Assured Guaranty Europe (next to the world famous ‘Gherkin’ in the heart of London). This is the new curvaceous cycle shelter, Falco designed, manufactured, supplied and installed for a new residential apartment development within the city of Nieuwegein, in the Netherlands. “The Switch”, a once vibrant office building in Rijnhuizen, Nieuwegein, characterised by its semi-circular segment shape, has been transformed into a modern array of 59 luxury apartments with an external park-like living environment. To compliment the numerous amenities and facilities available for residents, Dutch contractor, Kwakkenbos, commissioned a bespoke Falco cycle shelter arrangement which took design inspiration from the iconic building. Taking up the challenge, Falco modified the popular FalcoZan cycle shelter and transformed a line of ten bays into a 63.5⁰ curvaceous layout, allowing the cycle shelter sequence to contour The Switch building, just metres away. Each bay of the adapted FalcoZan shelter is manufactured from a combination of hot-dip galvanised steel with FSC® certified hardwood slats. The FalcoZan is coupled with Europe’s most popular - A-11 cycle rack, providing universal cycle parking. Combining creativity with practicality, the new eye-catching cycle shelter sits conspicuous within the apartment grounds and provides up to 80 secure spaces of cycle parking for resident use. The green sedum roof, an increasingly popular feature for Falco shelters, supports the apartments sustainable development plan by providing the many advantages associated with green roof systems as well as insulation for both heat and noise. A sedum roof both reduces water discharge as well as compensating for CO2 emissions. A further benefit of green roof systems is that they traditionally last longer than a usual roof covering and offer a natural view for residents from all five floors. The FalcoZan cycle shelter is the single sided version of the product range and meets EN1090 CPR which is UK law for cycle shelters. The modular shelter has a base unit 4.0 wide x 2.5m deep, with a free head height of 2.1m and can be added to and extended as required - to create a cycle shelter as wide as desired, by using standard ‘add-on’ units. The steelwork and roof are hot dip galvanised to BS EN 1461 as standard with an option to polyester powder coat on top of this substrate if required. The popular cycle shelter design has been used across the country with recent installations at Manchester Airport, Loughborough and Reading Universities. Continuing with the roll-out of cycle parking infrastructure to NHS trusts across the UK, Falco has recently designed, manufactured, supplied and installed a series of cycle parking infrastructure for St Bartholomew's Hospital in London - which is the oldest hospital in Britain! Managed by Barts Health NHS Trust, St Bartholomew's Hospital is located in the centre of London, close to St Paul’s Cathedral and is set to celebrate its 900th birthday in 2023! Located within the congestion zone and with no public car parking available, walking and cycling to the hospital is strongly encouraged. Due to the increasing demand for secure cycle parking spaces, Falco has recently manufactured, supplied and installed a series of 130 spaces of FalcoLevel two-tier cycle racks coupled with 16m of the FalcoRail cycle canopy and 48 spaces of the FalcoVert semi-vertical cycle rack, to meet staff, patient and visitor demand. The scheme here at St Bartholomew's Hospital makes use of the tried and tested FalcoLevel two-tier cycle parking system and the popular FalcoRail cycle canopy, which when combined together, create an attractive cycle park - providing cyclists to the hospital with high levels of cycle security, all in a spacious contemporary canopy design. The steelwork on the cycle canopy has been powder coated in a cordial 7011 Iron Grey RAL colour for added durability with LED lighting incorporated into the canopy structure for night-time illumination. The new facility, with everything a cyclist will need in order to visit the hospital by bike, has been installed to the north of the hospital grounds, next to Little Britain road and near to the restaurant and coffee shop. St Bartholomew's Hospital is just one of numerous NHS hospitals Falco has provided cycle parking infrastructure to this year alone. Other recent examples include cycle hubs for Bradford Royal Infirmary and St Luke’s Hospital in Bradford, Basildon and Southend University Hospital, a bespoke cycle hub for Ninewells Hospital and Medical School in Dundee, a trio of cycle hubs for NHS Grampian hospitals in Aberdeen, FalcoCrea cycle lockers for NHS Forth Valley in Falkirk, two cycle stores for NHS Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline, cycle racks for Royal Berkshire NHS hospital in Reading and a flagship FalcoHub for Newham University Hospital in London.
