Falco has completed the design, manufacture, supply and installation of a bespoke cycle hub for Colchester Hospital, part of the East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust, providing a modern and secure active travel facility for staff, patient and visitor use. In response to the growing demand for secure, sustainable cycling infrastructure and to help the NHS reach their net zero targets, the NHS partnered with Falco to deliver a bespoke cycle hub at Colchester Hospital. The installation supports the NHS’s commitment to greener travel options and enhanced urban mobility. The new FalcoHub cycle hub, installed this June, measures 12m x 8m and accommodates up to 128 bicycles using the space-efficient FalcoLevel-Eco two-tier cycle rack system. Designed with both functionality and aesthetics in mind, the hub is clad with reinforced safety glass and features customised branding graphics to complement the site’s identity. A key feature of the cycle hub is secure access to the facility provided by the FalcoSmart platform, allowing users to enter and exit the cycle hub via a dedicated mobile phone app, offering both convenience and eliminating the need for physical keys, fobs or swipe cards. Integrated sustainable LED lighting ensures 24/7 visibility, and a full concrete base was constructed by Falco UK as part of the turnkey cycle parking solution. This flagship installation forms part of the NHS Trust’s commitment to promoting sustainable transport options and creating infrastructure that supports long-term behavioural change towards cycling. As mentioned above, the cycle hub incorporates mobile app technology whereby users are able to download an ‘app’ to their mobile or smart device and once enabled by Falco’s Okey system, the user can open the cycle hub simply by pressing the app. Working on a short-range wireless communication interface, an app-based system brings a number of benefits to all parties:   • For users, it will offer a smarter option - no more keys and the associated costs.   • For the client it will be cleaner – it’s a more cost efficient bike storage system to manage.   • For Falco it will be simpler and more eco-friendly – less administration and less paper. A further benefit to clients using the FalcoSmart Okey electronic lock concept is that it can also be integrated into hubs and other cycle stores, so for instance a local authority which has a network of both bike hangars and cycle hubs can give residents access to their local bike hangar to pick up their bike for the morning commute and then enable them to use the same app to access the central bike hub at their local station. Continuing with the roll-out of cycle parking infrastructure to NHS trusts across the UK and helping the NHS to reach their net zero goals, Falco has recently designed, manufactured, supplied and installed a series of cycle parking for South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundations Trust this June. South Gloucestershire Council has taken a bold step towards smarter and more sustainable transport by rolling out a series of innovative, pay-as-you-go bike hangars—supplied, manufactured and installed by Falco. Falco is delighted to be working with the south west England local authority to roll-out their series of public bike hangars, providing convenient on-street cycle parking for public use. The cycle hangars are located at key public areas across the Borough, including a leisure centre, bus station, car park and shopping centre. Designed to support both active travel and flexible commuting, each smart FalcoPod bike hangar accommodates up to six bikes each and offers seamless access via a smartphone app. This functionality enables cyclists to book secure cycle parking spaces for as little as one hour or for multiple days — offering complete flexibility to meet the evolving needs of modern travel. The booking system behind the smartphone app is powered by a specialist technology partner, through their ParkMyBike platform. The ParkMyBike app enables cyclists to easily locate available bike hangars, reserve spaces in real-time, and manage bookings directly from their mobile device. With options to book from as little as one hour up to several days, the system offers maximum flexibility for users while helping councils to efficiently manage cycle parking capacity across multiple locations. This is the new bespoke cycle hub Falco recently designed, manufactured, supplied and installed this spring for Harrow on the Hill Underground Station, on behalf of the London Borough of Harrow. In response to the growing demand for secure, sustainable cycling infrastructure, the London Borough of Harrow partnered with Falco to deliver a bespoke cycle hub at Harrow on the Hill Underground Station. The installation supports the borough’s commitment to greener travel options and enhanced urban mobility. Making use of the flagship FalcoHub design, the new cycle hub has been fitted with the tried and tested FalcoLevel-Premium+ two-tier cycle rack, providing commuters with up to 40 secure cycle parking spaces. The bespoke 6m x 4.3m cycle hub has been fitted with innovative FalcoLevel-Premium+ two-tier cycle racks, six e-bike charging points, a secure access system, LED lighting, bespoke branding graphics and a green sedum roof. The front elevation features reinforced safety glass, while the remaining three sides are clad in sustainably sourced FSC-certified hardwood, combining security with aesthetic appeal. Key features of the cycle hub include: 40 cycle parking spaces using the innovative FalcoLevel-Premium+ two-tier cycle rack, optimising capacity within a compact footprint. This April, Falco manufactured, supplied and installed a new cycle parking scheme at Barnsley Interchange, the main transport hub serving the centre of Barnsley, South Yorkshire. Commissioned by Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, the project is part of a broader initiative to promote active travel and enhance sustainable transport infrastructure across the borough. As part of the installation, Falco supplied and installed 42 two-tier cycle parking spaces using the innovative FalcoLevel-Premium+ cycle parking system, along with three Sheffield stands to provide six additional spaces designed specifically for non-standard or cargo bikes.
