Falco was delighted to partner with the event organisers to provide secure cycle parking spaces to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. The contract oversaw the manufacture, supply, installation and re-distribution of over 2,000 cycle parking spaces to 25 different locations - which make up this year’s quadrennial multi-sport event. Falco’s delivery and installation vehicles overcame the logistical challenges required in order to ensure all operating venues throughout the West Midlands had ample cycle parking for spectators to use, throughout each of the 11 days of the international event. Flagship venues as part of the contract included the Alexander Stadium, Sandwell Aquatics Centre, Victoria Park, Coventry Arena, Coventry Stadium, Cannock Chase Forest, Sutton Park, Phoenix Park, West Park and Edgbaston Cricket Ground. The temporary cycle parking infrastructure was made up of the traditional Toaster cycle rack and the A-Frame cycle rack, providing mass and portable cycle parking, capable of being erected and dismantled quickly between events. Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games In addition to Birmingham 2022, Falco teamed up with four of Scotland’s sports and cycling organisations, to provide a series of bespoke cycle parking racks for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. Falco designed, manufactured and installed the 95 bespoke ‘Toaster’ style cycle racks as temporary cycle parking for spectators to use throughout the games. Each rack featured an end panel to incorporate the logos of; Glasgow Commonwealth Games Legacy 2014, Transport Scotland, Sustrans and Cycling Scotland. The racks were installed at over 20 of the key sporting locations of the games including the Commonwealth Sports Arena, Hampden Park, Celtic Park, Ibrox Stadium, Scottish Exhibition Centre and the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome to name a few. Temporary Cycle Parking In addition to the long-lasting cycle parking equipment provided by Falco, an array of temporary cycle parking facilities is also available. Temporary cycle parking (also referred to as pop-up cycle parking) is a cost-effective solution for locations where cycle parking is required on a temporary basis. Applications may include festivals, markets, concerts, fairs, exhibitions, sports events or simply where permanent cycle parking provision is yet to be decided. Falco has completed the roll-out of secure cycle parking facilities across Avanti West Coast Rail’s franchised network of 16 stations covering long-distance passenger services between London, the West Midlands, North West England, North Wales and Scotland - connecting six of the UK’s largest cities. The final installation of this tranche took place at Stafford Station where Falco installed a secure 6m x 4m FalcoHub cycle hub with associated two-tier cycle racks, to accommodate 22 bikes. The scheme which got underway towards the end of last year, oversees the manufacture, supply and installation of bespoke cycle hubs and associated cycle parking infrastructure to a series of stations on the rail network, as part of a mission by the new train operating company to revolutionise cycle-rail travel. In addition to Stafford, Falco has also completed a flagship 17m cycle hub for Stoke-on-Trent Station, a 11m cycle hub for Warrington Bank Quay Station, a 10m cycle hub for Stockport Station, a 6m cycle hub for both Crewe and Runcorn Stations, a 5m cycle hub extension for Birmingham International Station and cycle racks for both Wigan and Carlisle stations. Two key products of the tranche include the UK’s leading FalcoHub cycle hub coupled with the high density FalcoLevel-Premium+ two-tier cycle rack and when combined together create the ultimate cycle parking facility, providing cyclists with high levels of cycle security in a spacious and contemporary hub design. Additionally, the provision of cycle repair and maintenance stations will allow commuters to carry out cycle maintenance whilst on the go. As well as the cycle parking facilities, Falco undertook all the civils works, contract planning under CDM and M&E works providing a turnkey solution for Avanti including Landlords Consent and supporting other administrative requirements under the GRIP project process. Moving forward, the two-tier cycle racks are designed to be maintenance free to provide minimal cost of ownership to the client (only occasional cleaning required). Additionally should there be any unforeseen damage, the modular nature of each structure means that replacing any damaged items is simple and easy to undertake.
