This month, Falco manufactured, supplied and installed a bespoke FalcoLok cycle shelter, complete with innovative, space-saving, two-tier cycle racks for Lynfield Mount Hospital in Bradford. The shelter was specifically designed to accommodate 18 bikes utilising the FalcoLevel-Eco two-tier cycle rack. The cycle storage solution was tailored to meet Lynfield Mount Hospital’s requirement, providing a secure and reliable space for staff and visitors to safely store their bikes. One of the standout features of this installation is the use of non-combustible galvanized security mesh steel cladding, which not only enhances the shelter's security, but also ensures compliance with the highest safety standards. With the growing emphasis on safe, sustainable commuting, these features play a key role in giving cyclists peace of mind. Environmentally Conscious Design with a Green Touch Sustainability is a core value in all of our cycle parking installations, and this project was no exception. The shelter was equipped with a green sedum roof, which provides a natural insulation, promotes biodiversity, and enhances the aesthetic value of the installation. It’s a solution that combines functionality with eco-conscious design, helping reduce the hospital’s carbon footprint. Additional Features: Enhancing the User Experience To further elevate the experience, Falco incorporated several additional features that align with modern, sustainable cycling practices: LED Lighting: Ensuring that the shelter remains functional and accessible even during the evening or early morning hours, the energy-efficient LED lighting adds both security and visibility for cyclists. FalcoFix 2.0 Bicycle Pump and Repair Station: This addition allows cyclists to quickly repair their bikes and keep them in top condition, offering a more complete cycling solution. FalcoCharge eBike Battery Locker: In line with the growing use of electric bikes, the FalcoCharge locker provides a secure charging station for eBikes, promoting the adoption of greener transportation methods and supporting the transition to electric mobility. The contemporary cycle shelter is manufactured from a combination of hot-dip galvanised steel to BS EN ISO 1461 and steel mesh cladding, designed to be sympathetic to the surrounding area. The FalcoLok was developed by Falco’s in house design team to ensure it met the client’s specification including structural calculations so that the whole design meets the UK/European CPR regulations EN1090 and is CE marked as per UK law. The popular FalcoLok design has been used across the UK for secure cycle and waiting hubs including; the capitals first series of community cycle hubs as part of the London Borough of Waltham Forest Mini Holland Programme, a bespoke cycle hub for Wolverhampton Interchange Station, a secure cycle hub for Kenley Station and 12m cycle hub for Walkden Station. Following the successful installation and operation of Falco's innovative smart FalcoPod cycle hangars at the University of Glasgow's Gilmorehill Campus, Falco has now expanded its partnership with the University of Glasgow by installing a new fleet of cycle hangars at the university's Environmental Research Centre. Back in September last year, Falco manufactured and installed a series of nine smart FalcoPod Bike Hangars, creating a new network of secure cycle parking infrastructure across the Universities West End campus. Following the success of the first tranche, the university commissioned a fleet of cycle hangars for its Environmental Research Centre – broadening the accessibility of secure, smart access, cycle storage across the Universities campuses. The new cycle hangars, are equipped with Falco's cutting-edge smartphone technology, allowing students and staff to access each cycle hangar with the users smartphone, completely eliminating the need for keys, fobs or swipe cards. The design of each bike hangar includes the Universities own logo, instructional signage, a QR code for easy registration and powder coating in an attractive ‘Fir Green’ RAL colour for additional durability. Each state-of-the-art bike hangar provides University cyclists with quick and easy accessibility via the users smartphone. The user simply downloads the app, registers for a space, is granted accessibility via the back office and then can access their chosen hangar within seconds. For users without a smartphone, a physical key can be supplied instead. The FalcoPod bike hangar, as shown here at The University of Glasgow, is a robust on-street cycle parking solution designed to meet the needs of cyclists who don’t have access to private cycle parking facilities. The improved innovative shape means that users no longer have to remove some baskets or child seats when storing their bike! Falco design is both evolutionary and innovative by nature and the new FalcoPod is no exception. This is the third generation of ‘bike hangar’ type product building on the pedigree of the original street locker the ‘Midi Bike Box’ with some great new features over existing products as follows: Size - fits in half a car parking space and houses 6 bikes, with covered weather protection. Family inclusive – with an ergonomically improved design, the additional space/height (55% more) means there is no need to remove child seats or baskets from the back or front of bikes. Bike security - the six place FalcoSound bike rack has three locking points including the ability to use a ‘D’ lock through the rear wheel and frame.
