This month, Falco completed the design, manufacture, supply and installation of 20m of FalcoZan-180 cycle shelter, complete with 98 secure cycle parking spaces, split across two units at Renfrew’s key strategic industrial, distribution and logistics park. Unit 1 took delivery of an 8m FalcoZan-180 cycle shelter, complete with 36 spaces of secure FalcoLevel-Eco two-tier cycle rack and Unit 2 received a 12m FalcoZan-180 cycle shelter, with 56 spaces of FalcoLevel-Eco and six spaces using traditional Sheffield stands. The two-tier cycle racks offer employees and visitors with a space-efficient parking solution, allowing cyclists to securely store their bikes in a compact, vertically stacked arrangement. The scheme here at Westway, makes use of the tried and tested FalcoLevel-Eco two-tier cycle parking system and the popular FalcoZan-180 cycle shelter, which when combined together, create an attractive cycle park - providing cyclists to the park with high levels of cycle security, all in a spacious contemporary shelter design. The green sedum roof, an increasingly popular feature for Falco shelters, supports the parks sustainable development plan by providing the many advantages associated with green roof systems as well as insulation for both heat and noise. A sedum roof both reduces water discharge as well as compensating for CO2 emissions. A further benefit of green roof systems is that they traditionally last longer than a usual roof covering and offer a natural view for employees and visitors to the nearby units. The installation of this comprehensive cycling infrastructure at Westway is a testament to the park's commitment to sustainability and its recognition of the growing demand for eco-friendly transportation options. This is the latest cycle hub designed, manufactured, supplied and installed by Falco, at Guernsey’s largest law firm, Carey Olsen, located in the small town of St Peter Port, on the east coast of the island. Based on the flagship FalcoLok design, the 8m x 4.5m glass clad cycle hub is coupled with the FalcoLevel-Eco two-tier cycle parking system, providing secure parking for up to forty bikes. In addition to the cycle racks, Falco installed four LED vandal proof lighting systems, complete with proximity sensor, along with a maglock featuring the FalcoSmart Bluetooth access system. The new cycle hub makes use of the FalcoSmart app-based locking system, which uses Bluetooth technology to activate the locking mechanism from the users smart phone or tablet, with the benefit that they no longer need to carry keys or fobs. Employees are able to apply for access to the hub via Carey Olsen and having downloaded the ‘App’ are given access rights to the cycle hub for a period of time depending on their requirement. The system has a fully automated back office enabling the administrator to register new locks for new locations as well as adding new users and creating groups and assigning rights. A huge benefit to the law firm is that they are able for the first time ever to assess usage of a cycle parking facility, directly from the back-office app information. The cycle hub was developed by Falco’s in house design team to ensure it met the client’s specification including structural calculations to meet the EN 1090 CPR requirements of UK law. Falco is pleased to announce another installation of the UK’s only automated cycle wheeling ramp, for 20 Ropemaker Street, located within the heart of the city. The new automatic cycle wheel ramps have been installed by Falco as part of a £240m state-of-the-art development bringing a new commercial building of more than 450,000ft² of Grade A, BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ office space and premium retail provision to a prominent corner site just north of Moorgate Station. The automated bike wheeling ramp known as the ‘VeloComfort®’ is a huge innovation and Falco is once again delighted to bring what is standard Dutch cycling technology to the UK market. These wheeling ramps provide cyclists with the next generation of accessibility and are designed to assist users with manoeuvring their bikes up and down stairs with virtually no effort. This is particularly important where a bike is either heavy or perhaps has a basket or panniers and makes carrying a bike up stairs or even using a traditional wheeling ramp difficult. The VeloComfort® range comes in two patented innovative designs, one for manoeuvring bicycles up the stairs - VeloComfortUp®, and one for down - VeloComfortDown®! Falco supplied and installed 22m of both VeloComfortUp® and VeloComfortDown® designed to meet the client’s exact stair dimensions. The VeloComfortUp® is essentially a mini ‘travellator’ or conveyor belt which starts once the integrated sensors detect a bike and automatically stops if the conveyor is completely free of bicycles. The high quality conveyor (kevlar-based) belt runs in a durable, low-maintenance aluminium double-sided channel and is powered by an electric motor. The entrance and exit of the conveyor are aesthetically, functionally and safely integrated into the system, with the electric motor positioned on the side of the conveyor belt. The VeloComfortDown® is a simple and effective non-electric cycle / bike wheeling ramp designed with a gutter brush to reduce the speed of the bike. The gutter brush is made from a high quality, durable and low-maintenance aluminium double-sided channel, which is equipped with brush strip on both sides. The friction of the gutter brush ensures that the bike slows down, allowing the user to determine his/her own pace during the descent. These are the latest secure FalcoPod bike hangars installed this month at the new Harper Collins Publishers editorial office and distribution at Robroyston in Glasgow, which is currently the largest logistics development project in Scotland. Falco manufactured, supplied and installed a series of ten secure FalcoPod Bike Hangars, a 12m FalcoQuarter waiting shelter run and a secure FalcoLok-500 refuse store. Each FalcoPod bike hangar provides secure cycle parking for up to six bikes each, providing a total of 60 secure cycle parking spaces for employee use. Each bike hangar has been supplied with instructional signage, powder coated in a Harper Collins blue RAL colour and Harper Collins branding graphics. Installed outside the main entrance, each secure bike hangar takes up no more room than a single car parking space and is capable of accommodating all types of cycles - from road and mountain bikes to bikes with a child seat on the back or storage basket on the front. A 12m waiting and smoking shelter has been installed next to the bike hangars, made up of a series of three 4m FalcoQuarter shelters, one starter section and two add-on sections. The modular nature of the FalcoQuarter allows additional shelters bays to be added or removed in the future. A secure 5m x 4m FalcoLok-500 refuse store has also been installed next to the waiting shelter, clad in sustainable hardwood slats and fitted with double doors and a secure access system. FalcoPod Bike Hangar   The FalcoPod bike hangar, as shown here at Harper Collins Publications, is a robust on-street cycle parking solution designed to meet the needs of cyclists who don’t have access to private cycle parking facilities. The improved innovative shape means that users no longer have to remove some baskets or child seats when storing their bike! Falco design is both evolutionary and innovative by nature and the new FalcoPod is no exception. This is the third generation of ‘bike hangar’ type product building on the pedigree of the original street locker the ‘Midi Bike Box’ with some great new features over existing products as follows: Size - fits in half a car parking space and houses 6 bikes, with covered weather protection. Family inclusive – with an ergonomically improved design, the additional space/height (55% more) means there is no need to remove child seats or baskets from the back or front of bikes. Bike security - the six place FalcoSound bike rack has three locking points including the ability to use a ‘D’ lock through the rear wheel and frame.
