Case Studies
Falco has begun the roll-out of secure cycle parking across Shrewsbury Town centre, with the installation of the first phase of Shrewsbury Moves branded cycle hangars on behalf of Shrewsbury Town Council and the Shrewsbury Big Town Plan Partnership. The scheme, funded through the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), will see a total of 15 secure FalcoPod bike hangars installed at convenient locations across the town. The first five hangars are already in place, including sites at Fish Street, Market Hall, St Chad’s, St Julian’s and Roushill, with a further ten installations planned over the coming months. In addition to the first five, a e-Cargo bike hangar has also been installed at Rowley’s House, providing secure, sheltered cargo bike storage. Following the successful opening of the first units, the new hangars have already proved to be a huge success, with the majority of available spaces now fully subscribed. Each unit provides secure, weather-protected storage for up to six bicycles and features full Shrewsbury Moves branding, smartphone-controlled access, and durable construction designed for long-term public use. The hangars are operated through a subscription-based model, allowing residents to reserve a space via monthly or annual payment options, while the unit located outside Shrewsbury Market Hall offers flexible “pay-as-you-go” access. The initiative forms part of the wider Shrewsbury Moves strategy – a 10-year plan to transform the way people move around the town by prioritising pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport over private cars. The partnership’s goal is to reduce motor traffic, cut emissions, and improve air quality and safety within the town centre, making Shrewsbury a cleaner, healthier, and more accessible place to live and visit. Falco is delighted to support the Shrewsbury Big Town Plan Partnership in achieving these active travel ambitions, providing residents with convenient, secure, and sustainable cycle parking that encourages more people to travel by bike. Operated and managed through Falco’s integrated service—covering everything from installation to rental management and maintenance - these hangars are at the heart of efforts to encourage cycling as a viable, everyday travel option. Manufactured from durable steel and engineered for maximum security, the FalcoPod is fitted with a high-security lock with newly upgraded hardened steel cylinder and features Sold Secure Diamond accreditation. The latest generation of FalcoPods can also be supplied with smart technology, such as app-based access, internal LED lighting and e-bike charging points, to further enhance user convenience. This latest roll-out across Shrewsbury demonstrates the council’s continued commitment to providing residents with high-quality, secure cycle parking, while reinforcing Falco’s position as a trusted partner for local authorities looking to encourage active travel. Falco has continued its successful partnership with the London Borough of Ealing with the recent installation of nine additional FalcoPods - secure on‑street bike hangars - strategically placed across the borough. The new locations include Cairn Avenue, Chandos Avenue, Drayton Road, Grange Road, Glencairn Drive, Junction Road, Mayfield Avenue, Venetia Road and Station Road, providing residents with even greater access to secure on-street cycle parking. These new additions to the Falco rental portfolio build upon the success of earlier deployments, including the rollout of 46 FalcoPod hangars, each providing six secure cycle parking spaces within the footprint of half a single car parking bay, giving residents convenient, accessible and weather-protected storage right outside their homes. The London Borough of Ealing is the latest local authority to receive a network of the UK’s most user-friendly bike hangar design - the FalcoPod. Falco is delighted to be working with the West London Council to roll-out their next phase of residential bike hangars, providing convenient on-street cycle parking for resident use. The London Borough of Ealing identified a significant demand for secure, reliable bike storage within the borough. Many residents do not have access to private bike storage, and this lack of secure parking has often deterred people from cycling, especially in urban areas where bike theft is a common concern. To support the uptake of cycling and improve overall sustainability, the borough decided to invest in a public bike hangar scheme to provide residents with a secure, affordable option for storing their bikes. Located at key residential areas across the Borough, Falco manufactured and installed a series of 46 FalcoPod bike hangars this month, providing six on-street cycle parking spaces per bike hangar, whilst only utilising one car parking space. Each bike hangar is powder-coated in RAL 6009 Fir Green, a colour that blends seamlessly with the local environment and enhances the visual appeal of the urban landscape. The hangars feature secure locking systems, providing peace of mind to residents and making them ideal for long-term use in public spaces. As well as manufacture and installation, Falco is also providing a fully managed service with both key Rental Management for the residents and bike hangar Maintenance on behalf of the London Borough of Ealing Highways and Infrastructure team. The Falco Rentals website enables Ealing residents to look for free spaces in the FalcoPod Bike Hangar network, book an available space and pay online, all in one place. The Falco Rentals website also provides a useful video along with other ideas and tips on safely looking after a bike. In addition to the Bike Hangars for Ealing Council, Falco is also providing managed Bike Hangar services for the London Borough of Camden, Merton, Lewisham and Richmond and Wandsworth, as well as Bath & North East Somerset Council and Sheffield City Council.
