This April, Falco manufactured, supplied and installed a new cycle parking scheme at Barnsley Interchange, the main transport hub serving the centre of Barnsley, South Yorkshire. Commissioned by Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, the project is part of a broader initiative to promote active travel and enhance sustainable transport infrastructure across the borough. As part of the installation, Falco supplied and installed 42 two-tier cycle parking spaces using the innovative FalcoLevel-Premium+ cycle parking system, along with three Sheffield stands to provide six additional spaces designed specifically for non-standard or cargo bikes. The FalcoLevel-Premium+ two-tier rack is engineered for maximum space efficiency and user-friendliness, making it an ideal solution for high-traffic areas such as transport interchanges, where both capacity and convenience are essential. Meanwhile, the inclusion of Sheffield stands ensures the facility caters to a diverse range of cyclists, supporting inclusivity for those using larger or adapted bikes. The completed installation has significantly enhanced the cycle parking capacity at Barnsley Interchange, offering secure and easy-to-use facilities for commuters and visitors alike. By delivering a durable, low-maintenance solution tailored to the demands of a busy public environment, Falco supported the Council towards another important step of encouraging greener travel choices and reducing reliance on private car use. As with thousands of cycle parking schemes installed by Falco across the UK, the scheme here at Barnsley Interchange makes use of the tried and tested FalcoLevel-Premium+ two-tier cycle parking system, designed to accommodate twice as many cycles within the same space restraints or any traditional cycle rack or stand. This month, Falco manufactured, supplied and installed a bespoke FalcoLok cycle shelter, complete with innovative, space-saving, two-tier cycle racks for Lynfield Mount Hospital in Bradford. The shelter was specifically designed to accommodate 18 bikes utilising the FalcoLevel-Eco two-tier cycle rack. The cycle storage solution was tailored to meet Lynfield Mount Hospital’s requirement, providing a secure and reliable space for staff and visitors to safely store their bikes. One of the standout features of this installation is the use of non-combustible galvanized security mesh steel cladding, which not only enhances the shelter's security, but also ensures compliance with the highest safety standards. With the growing emphasis on safe, sustainable commuting, these features play a key role in giving cyclists peace of mind. Environmentally Conscious Design with a Green Touch Sustainability is a core value in all of our cycle parking installations, and this project was no exception. The shelter was equipped with a green sedum roof, which provides a natural insulation, promotes biodiversity, and enhances the aesthetic value of the installation. It’s a solution that combines functionality with eco-conscious design, helping reduce the hospital’s carbon footprint. Additional Features: Enhancing the User Experience To further elevate the experience, Falco incorporated several additional features that align with modern, sustainable cycling practices: LED Lighting: Ensuring that the shelter remains functional and accessible even during the evening or early morning hours, the energy-efficient LED lighting adds both security and visibility for cyclists. FalcoFix 2.0 Bicycle Pump and Repair Station: This addition allows cyclists to quickly repair their bikes and keep them in top condition, offering a more complete cycling solution. FalcoCharge eBike Battery Locker: In line with the growing use of electric bikes, the FalcoCharge locker provides a secure charging station for eBikes, promoting the adoption of greener transportation methods and supporting the transition to electric mobility. The contemporary cycle shelter is manufactured from a combination of hot-dip galvanised steel to BS EN ISO 1461 and steel mesh cladding, designed to be sympathetic to the surrounding area. The FalcoLok was developed by Falco’s in house design team to ensure it met the client’s specification including structural calculations so that the whole design meets the UK/European CPR regulations EN1090 and is CE marked as per UK law. The popular FalcoLok design has been used across the UK for secure cycle and waiting hubs including; the capitals first series of community cycle hubs as part of the London Borough of Waltham Forest Mini Holland Programme, a bespoke cycle hub for Wolverhampton Interchange Station, a secure cycle hub for Kenley Station and 12m cycle hub for Walkden Station. This is the bespoke bus shelter Falco manufactured, supplied and installed for Millgate Car Park in Thirsk last week, on behalf of North Yorkshire Council. The 5m x 1m bus shelter is based on the traditional FalcoLok design, complete with open front, perch seat, branding graphics, safety glass cladding and a powder coated finish. The client originally contacted Falco to provide a simple and effective bus shelter solution, suitable for a busy market town centre location. Falco provided the client with a free site visit, free HD rendering graphics to help visualise the proposed design and free AutoCAD drawings. The installed shelter is a bespoke contemporary design of the classic FalcoLok shelter, which features clean lines through the glass cladding and supported by stainless steel glass clamps. The steelwork is hot dip galvanised to BS EN ISO 1461 and also meets UK structural design laws with EN 1090 accreditation. Rainwater is collected via innovative integral gutters as part of the roof system and a bespoke bund ensure that the cycle hub is weather proof! Millgate is an 85 space, 24 hour, car park located on Marage Road, located in the busy market town of Thirsk. Millgate offers low cost car parking, electric vehicle charging points and a public convenience facility. The new year saw the start of a roll-out of the UK’s leading bike hangar design for Sheffield City Council, creating a new network of secure cycle parking across Sheffield’s Crookes suburb, located to the west of the city centre. The Bike Hangars provide secure, on-street cycle parking facilities for residents who don’t have access to private cycle parking, such as a garage or shed. The bike hangars provide secure lockable storage for up to 48 bikes and are located across streets within the suburb including Bates Street, Hadfield Street, Heavygate Avenue and Brighton Terrace Road. As well as manufacture and installation, Falco is also providing a fully managed service with key rental management for the residents and bike hangar maintenance on behalf of Sheffield City Council’s Highways and Infrastructure team. The Falco Rentals website enables Sheffield residents to look for free spaces in the bike hangar network, book an available space and pay online, all in one place.
