South Gloucestershire Council has taken a bold step towards smarter and more sustainable transport by rolling out a series of innovative, pay-as-you-go bike hangars—supplied, manufactured and installed by Falco. Falco is delighted to be working with the south west England local authority to roll-out their series of public bike hangars, providing convenient on-street cycle parking for public use. The cycle hangars are located at key public areas across the Borough, including a leisure centre, bus station, car park and shopping centre. Designed to support both active travel and flexible commuting, each smart FalcoPod bike hangar accommodates up to six bikes each and offers seamless access via a smartphone app. This functionality enables cyclists to book secure cycle parking spaces for as little as one hour or for multiple days — offering complete flexibility to meet the evolving needs of modern travel. The booking system behind the smartphone app is powered by a specialist technology partner, through their ParkMyBike platform. The ParkMyBike app enables cyclists to easily locate available bike hangars, reserve spaces in real-time, and manage bookings directly from their mobile device. With options to book from as little as one hour up to several days, the system offers maximum flexibility for users while helping councils to efficiently manage cycle parking capacity across multiple locations. Whether used for short visits or long-term stays, each FalcoPod provides a sheltered and secure environment for bikes, enhancing cycle security, whilst promoting sustainable infrastructure throughout the South Gloucestershire region. By integrating smart technology with a typical robust Falco design, the cycle hangars offer an adaptable and user-friendly solution that can evolve alongside the region’s growing demand for secure cycling facilities. Each bike hangar is powder-coated in RAL 7021 Black Grey, a colour that blends seamlessly with the local environment and enhances the visual appeal of the urban landscape. The hangars feature secure locking systems, providing peace of mind to cyclists and making them ideal for long-term use in public spaces. As well as manufacture and installation, Falco is also providing a fully managed service with both mobile phone app based rental for cyclists and bike hangar Maintenance on behalf of the South Gloucestershire Council Highways and Infrastructure team. The University of Bristol has recently taken delivery of six FalcoCargoBox lockers, creating the UK’s first ever network of secure cargo bike parking. Located across five separate sites at the University, each locker provides unparalleled secure storage for a wide range of cycles including cargo bikes, e-cargo bikes, adaptive bikes, recumbent bikes, tandems, tricycles, oversized and upright cycles as well as bike trailers. The six supplied lockers mark the UK’s first ever network of secure cargo bike parking and the fourth public cargo bike facility installed by Falco, with other schemes including a Beryl public cargo bike hire scheme for the London Borough of Hackney, a secure cargo bike solution for NHS Grampian and a public cargo bike hire scheme for Climate Action Ilkley. The large double doors at the front of the locker coupled with a gas-assisted lid, provide wide accessibility for a variety of cargo bike shapes and sizes. Introduced in 2021, the FalcoCargoBox was designed to provide secure cycle parking for the increasing trend for cargo and adaptive bikes and is the only product of its type currently available in the UK. The FalcoCargobox is simple and easy to use. Two securely locked front doors open to provide easy accessibility from the front and an innovative gas-strut assisted lid can be opened to provide easy accessibility from above. Together when fully opened, the FalcoCargobox is an open and spacious cargo bike storage solution that is easily operated.
