Falco has recently completed the manufacture, supply and installation of two bespoke FalcoSpan entrance canopies for Bartley C of E Junior School in Southampton, providing the school with a practical, durable and visually cohesive upgrade to its main building façade. This product has been specified by the architectural team at Hampshire County Council who liaised with the design team at Falco to deliver a number of schemes. Each canopy measures 3.3m x 2.2m and has been designed to create sheltered, weather-protected access points for students, staff and visitors. To complement the school’s brickwork and surrounding architecture, the canopies feature FSC® certified hardwood cladding, offering both sustainability credentials and a warm, natural aesthetic. The units have a bespoke system with no water outlet for the central leg, enabling the product to fit to the new proposed drainage layout. The structures are completed with high-quality polycarbonate roof sheeting, delivering excellent daylight transmission while ensuring year-round protection from rain and the elements. All supporting steelwork has been powder coated in RAL 1015 Light Ivory, chosen to blend sympathetically with the building’s exterior and enhance long-term corrosion resistance. With their clean design, robust construction and responsibly sourced materials, the new FalcoSpan canopies provide a long-lasting improvement to the school’s infrastructure—supporting safer, more accessible entrances and enhancing the overall appearance of the site. The FalcoSpan series of canopies offers great flexibility when providing an uncomplicated shelter, canopy or walkway. An exceptionally attractive and open shelter, very simple construction and great aesthetics. The FalcoSpan design is useful for a wide range of applications including smoking shelters, walkways, canopies, cycle shelters, general waiting areas, carports and storage shelters - the FalcoSpan can cover every option! The cantilevered design is topped with a robust roof section which contains integral gutters enabling excess water to be discharged at ground level via the supporting uprights. Falco has completed the design, manufacture, supply and installation of a bespoke cycle hub for Colchester Hospital, part of the East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust, providing a modern and secure active travel facility for staff, patient and visitor use. In response to the growing demand for secure, sustainable cycling infrastructure and to help the NHS reach their net zero targets, the NHS partnered with Falco to deliver a bespoke cycle hub at Colchester Hospital. The installation supports the NHS’s commitment to greener travel options and enhanced urban mobility. The new FalcoHub cycle hub, installed this June, measures 12m x 8m and accommodates up to 128 bicycles using the space-efficient FalcoLevel-Eco two-tier cycle rack system. Designed with both functionality and aesthetics in mind, the hub is clad with reinforced safety glass and features customised branding graphics to complement the site’s identity. A key feature of the cycle hub is secure access to the facility provided by the FalcoSmart platform, allowing users to enter and exit the cycle hub via a dedicated mobile phone app, offering both convenience and eliminating the need for physical keys, fobs or swipe cards. Integrated sustainable LED lighting ensures 24/7 visibility, and a full concrete base was constructed by Falco UK as part of the turnkey cycle parking solution. This flagship installation forms part of the NHS Trust’s commitment to promoting sustainable transport options and creating infrastructure that supports long-term behavioural change towards cycling. As mentioned above, the cycle hub incorporates mobile app technology whereby users are able to download an ‘app’ to their mobile or smart device and once enabled by Falco’s Okey system, the user can open the cycle hub simply by pressing the app. Working on a short-range wireless communication interface, an app-based system brings a number of benefits to all parties: • For users, it will offer a smarter option - no more keys and the associated costs. • For the client it will be cleaner – it’s a more cost efficient bike storage system to manage. • For Falco it will be simpler and more eco-friendly – less administration and less paper. A further benefit to clients using the FalcoSmart Okey electronic lock concept is that it can also be integrated into hubs and other cycle stores, so for instance a local authority which has a network of both bike hangars and cycle hubs can give residents access to their local bike hangar to pick up their bike for the morning commute and then enable them to use the same app to access the central bike hub at their local station. These are the latest secure bike hangars manufactured, supplied and installed by Falco for Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust. Spanning twelve sites for the Trust, Falco installed six Green Hangers and six Grey Hangers at sites including Slade House in Oxford, Marlborough House in Swinson and Whiteleaf Centre in Aylesbury. The bike hangars were commissioned exclusively for NHS staff, with all twelve new lockers providing staff with up to 72 cycle parking spaces, all within a sheltered lockable unit with secure access. The design of each bike hangar includes the trusts own logo, vibrant cycling graphics, instructional signage and powder coating in an attractive ‘White Aluminium or Moss Green’ RAL colour for additional durability. Each bike hangar takes up no more room than a single car parking space and is capable of accommodating all types of cycles - from road and mountain bikes to bikes with a child seat on the back or storage basket on the front. Falco design is both evolutionary and innovative by nature and the new FalcoPod is no exception. This is the third generation of ‘bike hangar’ type product building on the pedigree of the original street locker the ‘Midi Bike Box’ with some great new features over existing products as follows: Size - fits in half a car parking space and houses 6 bikes, with covered weather protection. Family inclusive – with an ergonomically improved design, the additional space/height (55% more) means there is no need to remove child seats or baskets from the back or front of bikes. Bike security - the six place FalcoSound bike rack has three locking points including the ability to use a ‘D’ lock through the rear wheel and frame. Easy access - single door with integral lock and gas strut for assisted lifting. The FalcoPod bike hangar as shown here for Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, is a simple and effective cycle parking facility designed to meet the needs of cyclists who don’t have access to private cycle parking facilities. Operating like a giant bread bin, each hangar is a secure and lockable unit capable of accommodating up to six bikes each. The innovative cycle parking solution is also available with an App enabled smart lock, enabling residents to access the unit with their smartphone, eliminating the needs for physical keys and fobs. Falco has completed the roll-out of the UK’s first ever series of smart bike hangars for Brighton & Hove City Council. The scheme which got underway towards the end of 2022, involved the manufacture, supply and installation of smart bike hangars with mobile app access, to provide the seaside resort with a total fleet of 150 bike hangars, equalling 900 secure on-street cycle parking spaces. The 18 month programme involved installing bike hangars across Brighton within four different tranches, at 39 different locations, with hangar number 150 installed on Langdale Road, Hove last week. Each futuristic bike hangar provides Brighton residents with quick and easy accessibility via the users smartphone. The user simply downloads the app, registers for a space, is granted accessibility via the back office and then can access their chosen hangar within seconds. For users without a smartphone, a physical key can be supplied instead. As well as manufacture and installation, Falco is also providing a fully managed service with both app and key rental management for the residents and bike hangar maintenance on behalf of the Brighton & Hove City Council Highways and Infrastructure team. The bike hangars have been extremely popular since installation began in the summer of 2022. More than 95% of spaces have been allocated to residents and over 2000 people are on a waiting list.
