These are the latest FalcoSafe cycle lockers Falco manufactured, supplied and installed for Blackpool’s brand new multistorey Central Carpark, located outside the world famous Coral Island, on Central Drive this month. Providing visitors to Blackpool with up to ten secure cycle parking spaces, all in a purpose-built individual cycle locker, the new facility provides complete peace of mind for cyclists, offering robust personal cycle security. Each FalcoSafe cycle locker door, manufactured from perforated profiled steel plate, has been powder coated in a bold slate grey RAL colour as per the clients specification. A wheel channel and cycle clamp has been provided for stability.   The modular design of the FalcoSafe enables the client to provide future expansion by connecting a FalcoSafe unit side by side to create a run as long as required and also when positioned back to back, providing twice as many cycle spaces. The new Blackpool Central Multi-Storey Car Park is the ‘enabling phase’ of the major £300m redevelopment of the former Central Railway Station site. As one of the UK’s most important regeneration projects, the scheme will be the largest single investment in Blackpool for over a century and is expected to create around 1,000 new jobs, bring an estimated 600,000 additional visitors each year, and boost annual spend in the town by around £75m. FalcoSafe Cycle Locker The FalcoSafe is a sleek and easy to use cycle locker offering cyclists with personal cycle security. There are two versions available, one designed for cycles and one designed for mopeds. The bicycle or moped is protected within the cycle locker from the destructive effects of vandals and weather. This is the latest cycle hub designed, manufactured, supplied and installed at the new Salford Royal Greater Manchester Major Trauma Hospital, located at the heart of the Salford Royal Pendleton site. Based on the flagship FalcoLok design, the 5m x 4m glass clad cycle hub is coupled with the FalcoLevel-Eco two-tier cycle parking system, providing secure parking for up to twenty bikes. Back In 2020, Falco installed a large hub at Salford Royal to accommodate 20 cycles with FalcoLevel-Premium+ two-tier racks. In May 2022, Falco were asked to visit Turnpike House by the same client to look at installing a secure shelter that wasn’t too imposing in height and size. The shelter was for staff to replace an old tired flat roof structure. In September last year, the hospital required a further 3m x 3m cycle hub to cope with increasing demand for secure cycle parking. The cycle hub shown here is the fourth to be commissioned by the hospital and to keep the same theme as the previous three sites, Falco used the same mechanical code lock and 11.5mm toughened laminated heat soaked glass in glass clamps, then customized the graphics to match, providing a coherent series of cycle parking across the Salford Royal site. The steelwork of the cycle hub was powder coated in the same attractive NHS blue RAL colour. The whole shelter is a bespoke contemporary design of the classic FalcoHub shelter, which features clean lines through the glass cladding and supported by stainless steel glass clamps. The steelwork is hot dip galvanised to BS EN ISO 1461 and also meets UK structural design laws with EN 1090 accreditation. Rainwater is collected via innovative integral gutters as part of the roof system and a bespoke bund ensure that the cycle hub is weather proof! Manchester Piccadilly Station has received a huge cycling boost after Falco manufactured and installed a series of 228 mixed-use cycle parking spaces across five separate areas at the north west city’s principal railway station. Working in conjunction with Network Rail, TfGM and Avanti West Coast, the scheme involved the manufacture, supply and installation of a number of mixed-use cycle parking systems with associated canopies, along with the provision of a cycle repair and maintenance station to allow commuters to carry out cycle maintenance whilst on the go. Falco provided station operator, Network Rail, with feasibility studies, completed landlords consent submission, contract planning and worked with station staff and stakeholders to re-configure the stations CCTV systems to ensure full coverage of the new cycle racks. Falco provided a full turn key solution, including required civil engineering works and hand back documentation to ultimately deliver the full implementation of the new cycle parking infrastructure. This installation forms part of TfGM’s continued commitment to improving active travel facilities across the region. The new facility benefits from Falco’s modular product range of shelter and cycle parking products enabling Network Rail to ‘mix and match’ the products to meet the different requirements of cyclists. The FalcoLevel-Premium+ two-tier rack is the UK’s most popular high capacity space saving cycle rack, whilst the FalcoRail canopy provides both single and double sided shelter with the option to extend in the future to meet growing requirements. Conveniently located across five separate areas, which includes an exclusive staff only secure cycle parking facility, the extensive installation took place at: Station Approach Installation of two x 4m FalcoRail single sided cycle shelters to accommodate 36nr cycles using FalcoLevel-Premium+ two-tier racks, installation of a 7m FalcoRail double-sided cycle shelter to accommodate 64nr cycles using FalcoLevel-Premium+ two-tier racks and installation of a Falcofix 2.0 Cycle pump and repair station. Fairfield Street Removal and disposal of existing cycle parking and installation of two x 5m and one x 4m FalcoRail Single sided cycle shelters to accommodate 66nr cycles using FalcoLevel-Premium Plus two-tier cycle racks. Exclusive Staff Cycle Parking Removal and disposal of existing cycle stores and installation of two FalcoLok secure cycle stores to accommodate 48nr cycles using FalcoVert-Pro semi vertical cycle stands. North Deck Installation of a 9m FalcoGamma cycle shelter to shelter nine existing Sheffield stands. Fairfield Street Under Croft Supply and installation of seven root fixed Sheffield Stands to accommodate 14 bikes. The flagship station is fitted out with the latest FalcoLevel Premium+ two tier cycle racks which incorporate an integral gas strut to enable easier lifting of heavier bikes as well as additional locking points so that cyclists have multiple security points for their bikes. In addition there is a mix of largely two-tier as well as Sheffield cycle stands and semi-vertical racks to provide more traditional cycle parking where people are unable to use the two tier racks or if users have an adaptive / non standard cycle. In addition to the Manchester Piccadilly Station scheme shown here, Falco has just completed the roll-out of secure cycle hubs across ten of Avanti West Coast’s franchised network - connecting six of the UK’s largest cities, over 350 cycle parking spaces for a number of stations on the Govia Thameslink Railway network, over 600 cycle parking spaces for a number of stations on the Abellio Greater Anglia network and over 1,000 cycle parking spaces on a number of stations on the Abellio West Midlands Trains network. This is the latest cycle hub designed, manufactured, supplied and installed by Falco as part of a new regeneration at Walkden Railway Station. Boosting sustainable travel access for Walkden residents, the new cycle hub has been commissioned by Salford City Council to help combat congestion, provide dedicated off-street parking and provide greater cycling accessibility to and from the station. The 12m x 4.5m bespoke shelter is based on the UK’s most popular cycle hub design - the FalcoHub and features secure cycle parking for up to 32 bikes, utilising traditional Sheffield cycle stands. The steelwork of the roof has been powder coated in a ‘Traffic Blue’ RAL colour, whilst the rest of the steelwork has been powder coated in a seperate ‘Squirrel Grey’ RAL colour. LED lighting with a occupancy sensor has been fitted to the roof alongside bespoke branding graphics which have been applied to the toughened safety glass cladding. The new cycle hub makes use of the FalcoSmart app-based locking system, which uses Bluetooth technology to activate the locking mechanism from the users smart phone or tablet, with the benefit that they no longer need to carry keys or fobs. Cyclists are able to apply for access to the hub via the Council and having downloaded the ‘App’ are given access rights to the cycle hub for a period of time depending on their subscription. The system has a fully automated back office enabling the administrator to register new locks for new cycle stores as well as adding new users and creating groups and assigning rights. A huge benefit to the local authority is that they are able for the first time ever to assess usage of a cycle parking facility, directly from the back-office app information. The cycle hub was developed by Falco’s in house design team to ensure it met the client’s specification including structural calculations to meet the EN 1090 CPR requirements of UK law.
